One of the few things Powell got wrong (though it was admittedly not implemented as he had planned it).Paul Rainnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2830084253401570472.post-63260121745741261582014-12-17T17:28:58.935+13:002014-12-17T17:28:58.935+13:00"... incomes at the top jumped ... and in par..."... incomes at the top jumped ... and in part due to that folks with the skills to adjust to the new environment started being compensated for it."<br /><br />Hmm, So people earning ridiculously high salaries are merely being compensated for their skills? This sounds like standard apologetics for inequality (the mega rich 'deserve' it) ...presented without facts to back it up.Jeff McClintocknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2830084253401570472.post-88179713064038763222014-12-17T08:25:53.501+13:002014-12-17T08:25:53.501+13:00Agree that we need some measure of cost effectiven...Agree that we need some measure of cost effectiveness of different treatment options, and that incarceration of psychopaths is a good.Eric Cramptonhttp://offsettingbehaviour.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2830084253401570472.post-56595799317185806382014-12-16T20:48:39.624+13:002014-12-16T20:48:39.624+13:00I'm surprised your endorsing a value for money...I'm surprised your endorsing a value for money argument that can't be substantiated. The GCSB and SIS budgets combined would represent a rounding error in what we already spend on mental health, so I strongly doubt there's any reason to anticipate major gains from the proposed shifting of spending. Also, figures on the number of mentally ill in prison tend to include a large proportion of anti-social personality disorders. I'm not sure about the Economist's numbers, but a lot of the numbers used in the NZ system literally include psychopaths among the mentally ill who it's suggested should be somewhere other than prison.Lliam Munronoreply@blogger.com
