We’ve classified 35 books in the last 5 years. 15 were unrestricted, guess how many were banned? #BannedBooksWeek pic.twitter.com/6CtB7ZNirW

Our office has banned four books in the last five years. Why? #BannedBooksWeek
— ClassificationOffice (@NZOFLC) September 30, 2015
Two books were banned for providing instructional material on how to commit crimes & two for promoting the sexual exploitation of children.

.@NZOFLC do you think it's kind of stupid that possession of 'The Everything Marijuana Book' is a more serious crime than growing marijuana?
— Graeme Edgeler (@GraemeEdgeler) September 30, 2015
@GraemeEdgeler It's the role of Parliament & the courts to decide on penalties. Our job is to assign classifications & provide information.

@NZOFLC do you take penalties into account when considering classifications?
— Graeme Edgeler (@GraemeEdgeler) September 30, 2015
@GraemeEdgeler No, consideration of penalties is not part of the classification criteria.

Some people are cut out for jobs like that; I can't imagine doing it.
