Relax already

StatsChat's excellent Thomas Lumley featured on Radio Live, poking holes in the doomsayers' balloons. He notes:

  • Reducing the BAC from .08 to .05 is unlikely to be cost-effective relative to other mechanisms to reduce the road toll;
  • The overall road toll is well down;
  • There is no crisis in youth drinking - the numbers are rather going the other way;
  • Youth sexual activity is down too;
  • Crime stats are getting better;
  • People play up the scary numbers.
None of these will be news to loyal readers, but will be news to many Radio Live listeners. I hope more Radio Live listeners flip over to Stats Chat.

  2. And we thought D.C. Mayor Marion Barry was audacious. Once again, our cousins to the north show us how it's done.

  3. Oh, and S2EP1 is pure gold. I'll chip in to kickstarter for it.

  4. Hmm. Comments seem to be breaking. Two from Bill are in Blogger's back-end, but aren't up in Disqus. Test comment to see what's up. And comment links in the back end do not match the proper posts, though each post has its proper comments on the post's page. Service call in to blogger, but free services don't have great turnaround speed.
